We spent the day in Brighton yesterday, and took some time to visit their naturist beach.

Now there were a limited number of ladies on the beach but my wife pointed out that we were left with more privacy than when we go to Studland even though the breach is much much smaller and much closer to a larger textile community.

I know some will point out that Brighton has a large gay community and therefore most guys on the beach are likely to be gay but the majority of hawker we get on Studland are clothed so you’ld expect the same level of issue here, if not more so.

One theory we both came up with was that because Brighton’s beach is so public these guys could get spotted by someone they know (with the marina and its shops so near by) and they would then has to answer the akward question of “why are you hanging about a nudist beach” which would frighted them to dealth.

So pleasently surprise and we had a fantastic day there, so hats off (and everything else) to Brighton and its community.  Our only grumble was we wish they were deck chair rental too on the beach similar to the pier area. Pebbles are so much harder that sand 😉

Only good thing about a pebble beach - and its a big good thing - the sand doesn't get everywhere! However I still prefer a sand beach.

I hope to be going there a few times this year. I love the beach and the town, people and the vibe of the area. So relaxed and vibrant, I could people watch all day there. Like a seaside version of Camden!

We’ve been there a few times over the years and there is no doubt the the voyeur problem has improved, they are still around but somehow don’t seem to be so obvious. Our last visit there was in August of last year on a very warm & sunny weekend and the beach was busier than we had ever seen it, a wonderful mix of young and old, couples and mixed groups, yes quite a few single males but not an issue, and as one member has pointed out, a real feast for people watchers being just like Camden by the sea!!!

It may be that you have become less sensitive to voyeurs over the years - I know that I have.

It can also be a bit of safety in numbers, the more naturists there are the less the creeps and voyeurs seem to stand out.

Reading the new advice about nudity issued to the police courtesy of BN it is interesting to note that, according to the CPS, that there is no legal power to designate or not that a beach (or other public area) is naturist. In other words, no “official” naturist beach is any such thing, and any other beach can be used naked as it can’t be designated “non-naturist”.

While there is perhaps no legal power, there are still advantages to having places where less confident and new naturists can know that they will be allowed to strip off.

The more confident of us will allow the new advice to give us confidence to use not only new beaches but also parks etc.  With care, of course.  We may have the right but I, for one, still don't want any confrontation.

I have noticed that as Brighton has got busier over the last 3 years has resulted in the safety in numbers. This means that the gawpers are more intimidated. You get passers by and the naked wonderers but it's deffo better, usually.
