As this was the last one I've actually been to...

This year was the first time we stayed in Hvar the fortnight. The previous two times we'd gone by the overnight bus from Rovinj to Split, which on the twisty coast road, makes you feel like you're in a roundabout. Great fun.  😕 Managed to sleep about 3 hours on the back seat, the rest of the night was huddled up on the back seat reading. The joys of backpacking. Stayed each time about 4 days and loved it. Did the more relaxing thing this time and stayed put. Explored the whole island as well.

So Jerolim...the taxi boats are there in the harbour and leave when they are full(ish). The last boat is about 5 or 6pm. You pay about two pounds for your return ticket. Though you may not actually get a ticket. Out of the 10 or so times we went, we got a ticket twice. Not the other 8. There may be a tax fiddle going on there. ;D Jerolim is the nearest island. Fully intended to investigate the furthest one called Palmizana but never got round to it. Subtext: too lazy. The middle one, Stipanska we left because A, because of the trendy club Carpe Diem's offshoot that's opened up on it, it's gone more textile, and B, the one time we went there we left early because there's a huge colony of sea urchins looking venomous in the sea, and you can't actually get into the sea without clambering like a monkey and looking very undignified.

So you arrive at Jerolim. The downside is that there used to be a nice grill restaurant there where you could amble over for a meal or drinkie. No more. Couldn't find out why. Looks very decrepit so don't look at it. There is a small shop (light dress needed) selling sandwiches and drinks in case of you running out so you won't dehydrate but of course we always took a goodly stock bought from the supermarket. Er...I didn't investigate the ladies next to the restaurant. Didn't relish it.

You can walk over the whole island nude and we always took the path leading to the left from the jetty and generally commandeering the cove 6 or 8 along. You can walk straight into the sea, flattish rocks, nice views of any ships visiting Hvar. I am a ship nerd. I once got pathetically excited on the taxi boat going to Lokrum off Dubrovnik as we passed the Millennium and I kept squeaking 'there's panelling from the Olympic (Titanic's sister ship) on there and I can't see it!'

Finding a cheap apartment in Hvar outside of July and August is a doddle, and it's perhaps the most beautiful town on the Adriatic. Great restaurants. Brilliant vibe. Quite a few Brits surprisingly, but it's more cosmopolitan than most places in Croatia.

'I figure life's a gift and I don't intend wasting it. You never know what hand you're gonna get dealt next.' Titanic.'Shine as a glow worm if you cannot as a star.' Thomas Andrews, shipbuilder.
'We'll miss the matinee but we'll make the night show.' The Greatest Show on Earth 1952.
