I've posted several times about walking in the Berwyns. These are mountains south of Llangollen and east of Bala and for me a 70 mile trip to good walking country that is better for naturism than the busier Peak District.

You can approach these hills from the four cardinal compass points and get a high as 830 metres, serious country, especially in bad weather so the right kit, and experience are required.

The four main points of entry are
1. From the east  Pystyll Rhyaedr  SJ074295 which will lead up to Moel Sych and Cadir Berywn. Nice pea shop here.
2. From the north Llangollen and onto the north Berwyn way or from the track starting at SJ 50426 in Glyndyfrdwy. These can lead u up to Vivod Mountain and Moel Fferna
3. From the west - car parking on a small triangle of land at SJ046383. Good access to Cadir Bronwen and onto Cadir Berwyn or Moel yr Henfaes
4. From the south at Llynynog at SJ053263 which can lead to Post Gwyn or after a bit of a walk to Moel Sych

You can of course choose other peaks.

Yesterday I did a Berwyn horsehoe from another access point I found via street view. Parking is very limited and the raod in this area very narrow. I parked at SJ118306 just south of Tyn-y-ffraidd and north of Tan-y-ffridd by a bridge over a small stream.

I followed tracks and paths to the summit of Foel Wen walking just below the summit of Mynydd Tarw en route and passing a farm at Maes that seemed to have all the dogs in Wales. I could hear them barking for ages after I passed. I went onto Tomle, to Cadir Berwyn and then dropped down to Moel yr Ewig, following the fence line down. This is precipitous and I would have taken a small track down to the south if the weather had been bad or the path slippy. I followed the tops to Godor.

I've never seen the ground up there so dry. After wet weather it could really be bog hopping. At one point I came across a deep cleft right across my path which I had to climb down into, and of course out on the other side. This cold be difficult after a sustained wet period. After Godor I cut across towards the road traversing east and dropping all the time back to the car.

The route may be shortened by dropping down to the road via the path that passes through SJ 081337 where there's a large old boundary stone.

Most of this area is access land, some paths are public footpaths and the other permissive. I was naked a short time after I left the barking dogs behind until I was getting down to the bottom of Godor. I did put a top on whilst I ate some lunch. Never let nudity trump common sense!

This is great walking country. During the whole of yesterday I saw two walkers in the far distance on the horizon near Cadir Berwyn  and two others when I reached the summit.
