Just a note of appreciation for this lovely beach. As written on here before, all the beaches on this stretch are used to some extent as they are so big it is easy to find your own space without intruding on anybody or vice versa. Before going into Great Yarmouth (only out of necessity to see a show) we spent a very hot day here last Tuesday but with the benefit of a breeze. All it took was 10 minutes walk left from the car park. Plenty of space. Went up to the back of the beach near the dunes, no walkers aside from right on the sea as too hot. Textile families were content with the area around the car park. A few groups came through the day and set up camp on the same stretch but no sign of being bothered by or noticing us with windbreaks. There are toilets and a cafe there. Stunning views and absolutely pest free on this occasion which is a rarity. One of the best beaches I have seen for kids.
Beach signposted from Winterton village. £6 to park all day but bearing in mind the added facilities which Holkham don't provide for the same money worth it. The beach is spotless. Other half took a stroll up Horsey way in shorts and saw some seals.

Was in Winterton early part of last week. It is a lovely area. It has a great cafe.
Public toilets need a refurb and given strength of waves, really need lifeguards on duty.
Walking left from car park you can go on dunes (apart from restoration areas roped off) or beach. Windbreak a very handy thing to have.
Saw 5 or 6 seals in sea, popping up to see what's going on.
Hope to go back soon
I was up there a couple of weeks ago and parked in the village so saved £6 for only a bit further walk across the back of the dunes. Agreed a really good spot. Waxham, on the other hand, gets a bit too busy in August with the nearby campsites.
A slightly sad footnote as it was a rare chance to see textiles en masse on a UK beach. Walking to and from our spot I observed (not too closely) the children. Some were in ordinary beachwear on a day approaching 90. Others were in absolutely ridiculous one piece onesie suits. Paranoia writ large, against exactly what I wouldn't know. The same for the parents in fact. Many were in tshirts and shorts and more. Bizarre really. When did this fetish for covering up on a beach start. I have seen photos of beaches on nostalgia for 70s and 80s groups on Facebook with people in ordinary swimwear as a rule. There has been a culture shift for all the talk about more acceptance of nudity.

When our son was younger we used these suits quite extensively as protection against too much sun exposure. He hated getting sunscreen on and it was just quicker, easier and caused less upset to put him in one of those suits. It meant he could swim at the pool or at the beach and we didn’t have to worry about him getting sunburn. It was the right choice for us.
That was your experience but it would take proof to convince me it is exactly the same for every other family I saw and there was quite a lot.

I can’t speak for every family, and I’m certain different families will use them for different reasons, but I can tell you they are sold as sun suits, with the SPF they provide on the label Speaking with other families with children around the same age ‘sun protection’ is the only thing people mention. Not that I’ve done any kind of extensive research on the topic, just spoken to friends about what they do.
Amazing how my and previous generations survived with the minimum and indeed nothing. Seems to be a mass epidemic of sun sensitivity.

We agree with you Brigitte, and it was re-assuring last week to walk past the textile part of our local beach on the way to our usual spot and see a few naked children, probably five, six, seven year olds, happily playing on the sand and in the sea.

There is now an irrational fear of the sun based on a lot of misinformation and fed to the public by the mainstream media.

The huge numbers of people on the beaches during this hot summer would suggest there is so such fear.

But most of the people I saw seem to be wearing an awful lot on the beach.
I think I saw about ten mummies in bikinis and less men in just shorts, many parents were in tops and shorts, the same as a street!

It doesn’t seem to be like that on the south coast where we have seen a lot of textiles wearing very little on the beach, and more naturists than usual where we go.

Many nice spots in the dunes and beach around Winterton. Mostly, I'd say, just further north than the tern nesting area. Also, just north of Horsey, park behind the barn at Church at Waxham and walk south away a little from the more popular main beach and again you'll find lots of great grassy and sandy dunes to walk/sunbathe naked. Lovely part of our glorious Norfolk coast 😊
I keep hearing about this beach, but can anyone provide travel details for those of us not driving?
Train and bus info gratefully received.
