Hi all new to the forum and this is my first post. Are there any good hikes or walks around the Somerset area?

Best thing is to find your own. There are lots of tips and advice on getting started under the various hiking threads on the site. Usually the hardest bit is plucking up the courage to take those first naked steps, after that it’s easy.

Although easier said than done, finding your own route is best. It will mean exploring clothed to find the route but once you have walked the route on differing days and times you will get a good idea of when to bare all and when not to. A sauna kilt is the most useful of accessories.

I have a route where I only bump into one other person, a dog walker, and he is cool with things. I walk 20 mins to a disrobing point which is 50 yards past the "tourist route". I dont bother them, they dont bother me. I found the route and explored it. You do the same.

Good luck and enjoy.

An idea for your first walks is to have a rucksack, boots and a hiking pole. The rucksack is good for putting your clothes in, and overall the impression is of a hiker going naked, rather than some oddball walking around without clothes, which may be more likely to prompt calls to the police with well-intended fears for your mental state.

I would suggest you research over the coming months, there must be some long distance paths near you. Get to know your route before hand. Try them out clothed first.
This last spring I did my first naked walk along the South Dorset ridgeway, it took a lot of courage but felt great once I started. I never met anyone but saw a few people in the distance. It went so well that I was able to walk for 3 hours.

Being naked is one of the simple joys of life.

Absolutely agree with pjcomp. you will need a rucksack anyway to hold vital things like map, compass, fluid etc

Hi Steve,
Also Taunton here. Welcome and enjoy this site. This is where I first came to get advice and info 8 years ago and definitely recommend it.
I can give a fair amount of advice about living in this area including places to go and walking tips so please get in touch via Twitter if you want to chat, or else we can use PM on here once you have made 5 posts and left behind the 'new member' phase and become a full member.
In the meantime there's a mine of info on this site. Definitely worth a search or two. Take care.
S.

I went out for a 10 mile naked walk yesterday near Entwistle Reservoir which is near Bolton, it was quite obvious that people round there are not used to encountering naked walkers and most of the people I talked to thought it was illegal to be naked, but accepted it wasn't when I told them. Everyone was very pleasant if a little surprised at first. Some asked if I was feeling the cold and found it hard to understand how I could not be cold. Two young ladies that I met earlier on who were not quote sure what to make of me the first time they saw me, met me head on round a corner about 9 miles into the walk. This time they were very relaxed about my nudity but were so concerned about me because they convinced that I must be about to suffer from hypothermia because I had been out in the cold for so long. I thanked them for their concern and reassured them that I was ok and I would put something on if I felt too cold.

The forecast was for a nice sunny day today. As it turned out it was very overcast and windy even though it was about 13 degrees C. It didn't rain much but there was also some rain in the air at times. It would probably have been ok for a naked walk but not really very pleasant. I went for a walk in Clumber Park with my wife with my clothes on, met loads of people on the walk round the lake and would you believe it, everyone treated me the same way as they do when I am naked.

So who was walking naked in the last few weeks on Ingleborough? Our Site Manager was a little surprised to meet someone walking totally naked at this time of year. Not sure if he has met any others. I didn’t get a chance to ask any more as he mentioned it in passing in a meeting, as a recent highlight....

I had a short nude walk in our local woods yesterday afternoon. Temp was 5 deg C so bracing! I warmed up by walking uphill to the woods clothed and then hid my togs before walking in the trees. Once I was moving the cold was fine and my body adjusted. No sign of anyone else but I did have a pair of shorts just in case. I certainly felt exhilarated when I got back to my clothes.
