Anyone on here ever seen one of the large, usually black, felines that get reported every now and again in UK media? Some of the reports are pretty convincing, for example by Clare Balding on BBC Radio 4 "Ramblings" programme.
I've never seen one, but I have seen a sheep carcass spectacularly well stripped of flesh. It just looked different from anything I've ever seen. It's some years ago, as I had no camera-phone on me.
Who would be more surprised in an encounter between a naturist rambler and a large cat?
I do believe there are “big cat” out there, as there have been too many sighting, some just large feral cats

Lynxes have been re-introduced in the mountains and hills of Gemany, Switerland, Slovenia, Croatia and France since the early 1970s, and very successfuly so as they probably number about 10,000 on the Continent now. They are notoriously man-shy, and are very rarely seen.

A number of sightings have taken place in the Northants area over a number of years, this is one of the most recent.
It would make me think twice about a naked walk at night in woodland.Very unlikely a cat of this type would stalk and attack a human but It would give you a hell of a scare if you came across it!!

People see things which confuse them. I suspect 90% of reports are mistaken identity - misjudging distance vs size, etc. However it wouldn't surprise me to find escapees living in the wild.
The oddest sighting I had reported from a local woodland went along these, paraphrased, lines
"I was shocked to see an Emu run past, chased by a dog. Shortly afterwards I saw the dog run past, chased by the Emu!". Lol
That turned out to be someones pet which had made a bid for freedom. 🙂

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with you but with so many reports I can't help but consider the possibility that maybe one or two are correct.
While driving home some years ago I was stunned to see the silouette of a creature against the sunset skyline, I nearly lost control of the car for staring at it....it was an ostrich!!
There was a farm on the hill having a go at 'farming' them!!! :laugh: :laugh:

I am pleased to hear that. Here the Spanish Lynx has become an endangered species with protection. Unfortunately this has not stopped the hunters from killing them.
I certainly saw a large cat like creature on one of my walks here but definitely not a lynx. Could have been a Catalan wild cat which has been re-introduce into the natural park where we live.

Yeah, I think small/far away accounts for a lot of this.
Saw a near-as-damnit true wildcat in Scotland last year. Probably wouldn't have without having found such a quiet place to go walk without clothes.
Driving into a small Shropshire town many years ago for work, I glanced over the hedge into a field and saw a zebra, it was only when I got to the next field I realised the circus was in town. 😮

There was a Zebra spotted in a field in Lancaster, many moons ago. The rumor went around that it was owned by Mr Sidonio, the local ice cream man and that he had bought it as a sales gimmick.
Mr Sidonio had bought a new animal to pull his van, but it was not a Zebra, but a white pony, that had been spotted in the field, by two mates wandering home from the pub. The stripes were created by the shadows of the fence.
There was a Zebra spotted in a field in Lancaster, many moons ago.
But zebras are striped, not spotted...……...
