As the day was predicted to be warm and sunny with clear blue skies I decided that I would take a drive upto the Platja de El Torn to see how the beach had fared after Storm Gloria devestated Catalonia a couple of weeks ago.  The waves were 3 metres higher than those previously recorded and I was expecting to find a dreadful sight as shown on other beaches in the region.  In fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see very little rubbish so must assume that there had been a clear up in progress.  There was a great deal of sand carried to the rear of the beach but still plenty where it had always been.  Apart from a few trees blown down and the lifeguard's hut blown on its side a few metres away from its normal position everything seemed quite hunky-dory.  Cliffs (at the foot of the campsite) which I had expected to have been destroyed were still standing.  So, after having satisfied myself that everything was OK I settled down and had a lovely peaceful day.
For those of you who have been this way or are coming this way I wish that I could report the same about the Ebro Delta.  Although I have not been to see it as the roads became unpassable it was being considered making it a disaster area.  The spit at the mouth of the Delta was washed away allowing the sea to some up the river and swamp acres or rice fields which means that the farmers will have a poor crop this year.  I am just hoping that the causeway to the Trabucador Beach was not washed away as is such a lovely drive along it to a peaceful sandy naturist beach backed by a bird reserve.  If I manage to get there I will post a report on how the Delta is faring.

Hey Tony!

That's so nice of you to report about the Ebro Delta!I can only guess how tough it must be for people who live from tourism to see the area being hit so hard....

We've booked a villa in l'ampolla anyway and look forward to enjoy the Spanish way of life next summer

Hi Tony,
So sorry to hear that the Delta has been so hard hit - as you know I love the place. I am pleased to hear that El Torn has weathered the storm resonably well as I intend to be there again in September.

Hi David, if I c ould check on the van for you both I would but have no idea where they store them.  I presume that it would be somewhere safe because of insurance requirements.

@montcaro

Thank you Tony for your kind offer, not to worry, I think I am better off not knowing till I get there. If there have been problems I would expect them to contact me.

I have recently seen that El Torn has recently been named as the 7th bext naturist beach in the world by the travel portal Globehunters.  It doesn't surprise me in the least.

I think at lease one of the beaches they list is not actually naturist but I can't find the list on their web site at the moment.

For those of you who know El Torn I went there yesterday for the first time since the lockdown here in Spain eased.

It was good to see that it had not been marked out with zones and there was no sign of any form of control going on which is good considering some of the other beaches in Spain.  It would be difficult though with such a long beach.

Neither was there any sound from trains which I think means that they must now have been re-routed down the new line.

The restaurant on the beach was being re-erected and I would imagine that the campsite, El Templo de Sol will be back open for the 23rd of June when most of the lockdown restrictions in Spain will be lifted.

All in all, I can report that it was a good day and that things are starting to get back to normal (I refuse to use newnormal) .

Hi Tony That is very encouraging news. We are due to be there again in September and hopefully there will not by then be a need for 14 days isolation when we get home. I hope to see you and Gildo then.

One thing that I forgot to mention is that the causeway on the Delta that goes to the Playa Trabucador is no longer in existence at the moment.  The storm earlier in the year removed it and it is having to be rebuilt at great expense.  At the moment there is a petition to the Spanish government for funds to help with the restoration.  Knowing Spanish bureaucracy that will mean they will be waiting years for the money.

I've just read an article about el trabucador saying that the high tide earlier this month actually removed some of the sand which was brought to rebuild the causeway to the point of breaking it again.
Looks like it's not going back to normal anytime soon....
