Hiya. I'm heading to Mullion in the south of Cornwall in August, any suggestions for clothing optional beaches in the area? Can't do naturist beaches as the rest of my family are textiles and are unwilling to try the lifestyle. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I think the larger of the two Gunwalloe beaches has a naturist section, We stayed in Mullion last October but only found out about Gunwalloe after we came home.

LIFE is short, break the RULES. FORGIVE quickly, KISS slowly, LOVE truly, LAUGH uncontrollably, and NEVER REGRET anything that made you smile.

Surely most "naturist beaches" are in fact clothing optional? There are no nudist police forcing people to remove swimming costumes. It shouldn't be a problem to other beach users if you are the only naked member of your family. More likely, your family will simply refuse to join you anyway, but if you're lucky they might strip off after a little while acclimatising.

@fellsnude Don't forget that under current English law ALL public places, including beaches, are clothing optional

Yes, of course, but there still seems to be a gulf between the legal and the socially acceptable!

I'd say it's more socially acceptable to be wearing something on a naturist beach (provided you're not obviously just being a perv.) than to be naked on most other beaches - sad but true.... Having said that, on our first nude beach it was definitely helpful for Mrs Fellsnude and me to be able to keep something on for a while, then we got the courage up to go for it, and have never looked back.

@fellsnude Yes, I understand that, but we have to do something to educate people that we are just as entitled to go nude as they are to wear clothes. We have to push the boundaries of what is "socially acceptable" to others if we are ever to achieve what is socially acceptable to us (and harmless to everyone else - and the law is on our side with this, although too many are unaware of this. We should also recognise that there is in fact (in this country at least) far less hostility to nudity than is generally realised. BN's walking/hiking groups have noticed this and stopped covering up every time they meet other people.
