the following was posted on a gardening forum recently

"Talking of gossip, a good friend of mine has just made the local papers "woman startled by flasher" which is so very unjust. He wasn't flashing, he's a naked rambler and she met him at the end of a 5 mile hike down the Oxford Canal! People who flash, don't usually walk around in nothing but a rucksack and a hat and stop for a chat on the way.  The paper has no idea who he is and she described him as "tall". He's my height and I'm short for a woman. You can tell what SHE was looking at!"

I do the early morning chores on my canal boat naked whenever we have a quiet mooring.
That includes swabbing down the exterior and polishing the outside brass.

Often I will also take a naked walk down the towpath or adjacent footpaths, although you do have to be a bit careful of early dog walkers.

I'll try to get a few pictures to post this summer.

I think we have to accept the woman's reaction as part of the social conditioning. I sympathize with the rambler but I do understand the reaction. It would have been the same with most women I know!

Conditioning starts young. When going to the (textile) baths with other adults and children I casually remarked that I would have loved to go the spa and sauna rather than just a swim. A youngster remarked, " You get naked doing that" and another, "Yea you take your pants off".  😮
"Have you done that?" (child speaking to another child") "No I haven't came the reply" Nudity is not expected as a norm, and meeting naked walkers is not considered the norm. We have to accept that. How is a diferent matter.

I don't agree that we have to accept it; recognise it maybe, but not accept it.

I regularly walk naked when it feels like a suitable option and on the few occasions that I am (unintentionally) seen, I figure that I have just reduced the rarity value of bumping into a naked walker   😉

Others are also out walking naked, and occasionally meeting folks, so Joe and Josephine Public will slowly get more used to an occasional glimpse of unclad walker.

Gently acclimatising the world to the realisation that a naked person is not necessarily an axe wielding rapist seems to me to be a more positive act that sitting in a secluded club and complaining that the world does not understand naturism.

Have fun,

Ian.

PS Davie, that's not to have a dig at you. I have met people at swims who complain that naturism is not accepted but are not prepared to admit that they are naturists to anyone outside naturist circles. To my mind that is a self fulfilling prophesy.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

Hi Ian
A reply and thanks for not suggesting a dig. My first line

I think we have to accept the woman's reaction as part of the social conditioning.

I understand where you're coming from. My sole point above is we have to accept that people will re-act in a way we naturists do not wish. i.e. though her socialization that is the re-action. By proclaiming to the world the values and pleasures of naturism is as you suggest is the way to de or is it un socialise people from the popular way of thinking about nudity.

Thanks for the comment

I have added a couple of boating pictures to my albums.

By the way - while not all the pictures I post to my albums will show nudity (as is indeed true of the first two) they will all be naturist relevant.

My regular boating pictures can be seen on my Flickr account.

Watch for TV coverage of Boris opening the new Three Mills lock on the London Olympics construction project on Friday.

No TV coverage - Hilary Benn, who should have been doing the opening ceremony, stayed back at the office because of all the job chopping that was going on and the camera crew stayed with him.
The nearest I got to national publicity was the background of a photo in the Times column-filler report of the opening.

Oh Well.  😎

Edited to add:
Off to France for 2.5 weeks - will be boating in July and will post pictures of both when I get the chance.
