Just thought i would share a great (for me ) experience i had yesterday.

I have done a few what I like to call 'inner city naturist' walks before but usually at night in places i know very well from walking around in the daytime, yesterday was very different.

Now that the weather is finally warming up i want to start doing some more what some refer to as free range naturism so yesterday an opportunity presented itself which i had to take.

I was doing some work in skegness which meant a reasonably long drive from my home near nottingham and on the way there i kept seeing all these fields and public footpath signs and thinking to my self, i wish i could. Well on the way back i found a parking layby which looked perfect, was near a little wooded area, so I went through the hedge and across the small field to the wooded are.

Scouted around for a few minutes to see if anyone was around, there was a track in the middle obviously used by a quad bike/ land rover anyway after about 10 mins checking out the immediate area i found a nice big tree stump to hide my clothes behind. I then hid my clothes and ventured out for the first time naked in the daytime (except beaches garden and naturist club) that is to say somewhere i possibly shouldn't! ::)

So naked except for my crocs (fantastic shoes btw) i set off along this track, still fairly close to the main road, close enough to hear the traffic going past. Had a lovely walk for about 5 mins when the track came to the edge of the wooded area and open to some fields, obviously farming land, but after a careful loook into the distance to check i was still far enough from the road to be reaasonably safe and that there wasnt a farmer around i ventured out on to the filed.

As the mud had gone i then thought i'd make my walk even better by going barefoot too, fantastic 🙂 After another 5 minutes or so of walking on the edge of this field there was what i thought to be a gunshot so thinking it may be the farmer a little upset with a naked rambler i turned and retraced my steps back to the wooded area, replaced the crocs ( have i mentioned them enough to get a free pair  ;)) and headed back on the track to my clothes and then the car.

I later heard the same bang again and figured it must just be a quarry or something similar nearby, wont be so chicken if i get another chance.

Anyway thought you would like to hear about it. I do have a couple of questions though:
1. If spotted/caught by the farmer could I A- Be done for tresspassing and B Indecent exposure?

2. How have some of yoyu dealt with bumping in to strangers whether it be the farmer or just someone out walking a dog etc as i feel this stops me from doing more free range naturism as i couldnt afford to get a criminal record!!

thanks and hope you enjoyed reading.

Well done notts 🙂

it is simply a wonderful feeling to walk naked, but tempered by the worry of discovery.

Still for me the feeling of freedom, and "oneness" with nature override the concern, but caution is required.

I'm sure  Farmer seeing someone walking where they shouldn't be would be displeased at best. I guess seeing a naked walker would displease him even more, so its a tricky situation.

This is something I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember. Just be careful about places you don't know very well. It is great over winter to explore woodlands and little used paths to see what's there. I have found a great little clearing in a woodland not too far away that in summer will be a fantastic little sunbathing spot, assuming it doesn't get overgrown with bracken by then.

Great to read about your free range naturist adventure. Roll on summer temperatures! 🙂

Well done on your first countryside naturist walk. Good aren't they!

Speaking as someone who has spent his working life in farming, the act of trespass onto private farmland is in it's self not illegal it is what you may or may not do which could lead to a prosecution. For example refusing to leave when asked by the landowner, causing damage to crops, fences etc, causing harm or injury to livestock due to your actions will get you into trouble as opposed to simply taking walk in a field.
If it's a public footpath on farmland then you have every legal right to be there. The days of farmers chasing off trespassers at gunpoint are long gone and the police take a very very dim view of any farmer taking potshots at people, naked or otherwise. The sounds which you heard could have been a gas powered bird scarer. From a distance these can sound very similar to a shotgun going off. Just don't tell the birds!

A really useful snippet of infomation to know is that the public have a right of access to Forestry Commission woodland, (my Dad is a retired forester) so if you have any FC woods near you it would be worth checking their suitability for naturist walking.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Shall be attempting more when time and situation allows.

As for the farmer I think id rather not bump into one but will obviously have to deal with it if it comes up, just be polite and hopefully they won't call the police.

Ill take a look into the forestry commision as i may pass a no of those on my regular rounds.

Free range is the way to go!!

There's quite a lot of discussion on the wrongs and rights of free range naturism as far as the legal side goes. See the legal matters and walking threads.

Like many I enjoy naked rambling. I always walk well away from well visited areas. The closest I came to being seen was when I was about to walk over a small rise and I just saw the head and shoulders of an oncoming couple. I turned tail, sat down and by the time they came passed me I had my shorts on.

Whether or not I should have brazened it out is another matter but as Running Bear has said before, a single male may be perceived as a threat, two as gay and three, especially if there are women in the group more acceptable.

... and if you can't see what they are wearing, you're safe as they can't see what you are not wearing.

.. and well done for trying out a new experience and may your future naked walks be good ones.

Hi Notts,

Thanks for sharing your walk with us.

You asked about the legality of being naked; it's probably a bit late to ask but now that you have I'd suggest that you check out the legal pages on the NUFF website. There is also quite a bit of discussion on NC in this thread.

As for encounters, I try to avoid them but do not always succeed. To date I've had no "bad" encounters though there have been a couple of occasions that the other person was obviously unhappy. I generally greet folks cheerfully, apologise if I think I may have startled them (but NEVER apologise for being naked) and continue on my way unless they choose to engage me in conversation. What you really should try to avoid is running away, looking guilty or hopping around in a desperate struggle to get your shorts back on; any of those will make it look a though you believe you are up to no good and folks will react to your behaviour more strongly than to your choice of attire.

Have fun,

Ian.

Which reminds me, Ian.

Have you ever had a reaction like the ones from the textile women I described here?

I can't say I have. Generally folks completely ignore how I'm dressed and just reply to my greeting or make a remark such as "aren't you cold?" A couple of times people have stopped in response to my greeting and have chatted for a few minutes, if they look uncomfortable I ask if they would like me to cover up but so far no one has ever replied in the affirmative. There was one occasion last autumn when a couple of joggers appeared around a corner unexpectedly and did not seem to notice I was naked. It did not look as though they recognised how I was dressed and then pretended not to, there was absolutely no reaction from them as they passed. I suspect they were busy watching my dog.

Have fun,

Ian.

That was the range of rections I have had elsewhere.

It seems that peculiar reaction is confined to certain C-O beaches.

I suspect that they had knowingly gone to the CO beach to see what they could spot; the female equivalent of a meercat perhaps? I'm not a great one for beaches so have not seen this behaviour but will keep an eye open in future.

Have fun,

Im all for you but I would not hide my clothes I would much prefer to carry shorts and top in hand or in some hold all over my shoulder. If you got cut off or worse could not find them I think panic would set in. And don't forget your carkeys could be in your clothes. Happy nude hiking 😉 😉

Ah, but part of the joy of it is having nothing at all with you, being carried or worn in what ever form. There is a certain feeling that is difficult to describe about being involved in natural surroundings without anything other than your skin!  🙂

I have to say I think mark has hit the nail on the head for me, its not carrying anything, the total feeling of freedom is what its all about.

I tend to agree especially about the car key issue. I've always feel I've had a naked walk IF the shorts etc. have remained in my rucksac. It's only second best if shorts have to be carried.
