on the way home the other day i stopped to explore a bit of the polden hills near Butleigh monument. Mid afternoon , sunny with a bit of a breeze, not hot but not chilly either. the road runs east west along the top of the ridge... a lot of the south slope is ownedby the national trust and other greeny trusts.... some rough pasture, some woodland. the areas by the carparks have allways been popular with dogwalkers. anyway i parked on the verge between carparks and set off to explore wearing a wrap skirt and camera bag... i soon discovered that the area has been developed.. thetes now a gravel path running parallel with the road... signed up as the polden way.... soon met a jogger... he seemed facinated by my attire as he passed by... poor sod was sweating profusely in his shorts and shirt.... i soon spied more walkers on the polden way beginning, to like the area was far too popular. however at intervals there are rough dirt paths descending the hill , both through grassland and woods, i spent an hour or so exploring some of these, didnt see anyone else venture off the relitavely level graveled polden way along the top of the ridge.
most people walking in company make a lot of noise, often the first thing you see through the undergrowth is their brightly coloured shirts and most of them seem to be totally focussed on the ten feet of path in front of them.
at one point i managed to get some shots of a damsel fly, it stayed on its twig for a long time as if i wasnt there, maybe the lack of clothes confused it into thinking i was harmless 🙂
Fabulous photo ric - what kit/lens do you use?
Back again!!!
hi ali , that was taken with a pentax k100d with its standard 18/55 lens, i also carry a 100/300 tokina lens for the birdies etc. ive also got an old olympus 750c which i keep in the glovebox . the real bonus with the pentax (as with any slr) is the ability to use manual focus with a clear optical viewinder. its a bit of a lump to carry about, but its also a good visual excuse for lurking in the undergrowth 🙂
