Had to go to Torbay this week and had a few hours to kill.

The weather was doing it's usual rain, cloudy and sunny all in a matter of minutes, but it was warm and humid from the rain, so I decided to try and find Petitor Beach.

I had been told it was a naturist beach but it it was not very big, more of a cove and very rocky.

I parked up near the golf course and headed off on the coastal path towards Watcombe. After a while along the coastal path could see the sea on my right, but no path down to the beach, so decided to head back.

When I got back to the gate way off the road, I saw another path that lead down the bank toward the sea and to some trees and ferns. Followed this path down past some large mature trees and benches to some railings on the top of the cliff. Saw a well walked path to the left and followed this down a steep track which was slippy in places and more of a hike than a walk, which had some ropes tied to trees in places, finally down to the beach.

You could see the beach in places as you walked down and I did glimpse a naked body, so guessed this was the right place.

There was a guy sitting on some rocks (clothed) throwing pebbles in between larger boulders filling in the gaps (your guess is a good as mine !). I said  hello and he responded with the same, but not stopping at his task.

I took a right onto the beach which was more boulders with a few patches of sand in between which difficult to navigate and made my way to the shoreline.

The person I spotted earlier was in the sea swimming, so I decided to do the same and stripped off putting my clothes on a rather nice boulder which was smoothed by the sea with interesting yellows and purple swirls and a quartz band running through the middle. The sand was also very red from the terracotta clay in the area.

My fellow naturist was a women in her late 70's I would guess, with a great all over tan. I said hello but was ignored, so I carried on into the sea, but it was very difficult to walk bare foot and the water was a bit murky, but I persevered and had a quick swim.

My fellow beach goer was changing when I got back so thought the other guy may have been with her.

As I was air drying, the rain came in again, so got dressed and started to head back.

By this time she had packed up and armed with her Nordic poles was off up the track.

The stone throwing gent was still at it but had moved onto a stone cairn of some kind, so I decided to leave him to it. (I still have no idea what that was about)

An interesting experience of another naturist beach which again proved challenging to reach and interesting from a geology point of view, but not an easy one to lay your towel out on and get some rays.

I'll tick it off the list but will still go back to Weston Mouth as my favourite.

I never caught up with my fellow naturist, so I was most impressed with her stamina and fitness and would hope that in my 70's I can do the same.

Well, apparently there are many Tor Bays in the world. This is my visit to Tor Bay, Gower.

I have good memories of enjoying Petitor beach years ago when staying in Babbacome. 🙂
