Hi Folks,
I read on the Guardian web site that someone recommended skinny dipping at Lady Falls but it's the only reference I seem to have found. Anyone else tried it or are we likely to cause an issue with locals and other tourists if we try.
Thanks in advance
I have done it, but not during the school holidays when the area is very busy.

Thanks for the guidance
When is the best time, temperature wise, to visit Lady falls?
Soon the lockdown in Wales will be lifted/eased and I'd like to have a skinny dip there.
Please don't call it "lady falls" it is Sgwd Gwladys. The erosion of Welsh names by those too lazy to learn some basic pronunciation rules is destroying the culture and identity of the country.
Sgwd Gwladys on the river Pyrddin is not the best spot for skinny dipping in my opinion. These waterfalls are well visited as there is an easy walk from the Angel Hotel to the falls. The water in the headwater rivers of the Neath is cold as most originate from the limestone caves upstream. Please be careful in this area as the Brecon Western Mountain Rescue are regularly called out to accidents on these rivers.
Perhaps in the interests of education, pronunciation, and improved international relations, you could help with a phonetic version of Sgwd Gwladys. Presumably Lady Falls is a simple translation rather than gross mispronunciation.

Unfortunately "lady falls" isn't even a translation. The correct translation of Gwladys is Gladys the ladies name. in this case the W is very nearly silent and Sgwd is like scud the missile but with a soft w in the middle.

Thanks. Could you please recommend a secluded and safe fall in the Brecon Beacons?

This is a beautiful tourist spot and to the uninitiated the name 'LadyFalls' might seem more attractive/identifiable than 'Sgwd Gwladys' and this is reinforced by being written on maps, tourist leaflets and local restaurant menus !!...and although visitors can't be blamed for referring to it as Lady Falls, this is not it's correct name. I do though, both empathise and sympathise with dwrgi in that the Welsh language, culture and identity has been subject to erosion( historically ). Fortunately however, things have improved in the last fifty years or so but we still need to (gently) work to protect, maintain and raise it's profile. 🙂
One life...live it !...there is no rehearsal!
So the translation should be "Gladys' Waterfall"? I reckon the marketing men at the Welsh Tourist Board probably had a hand in this, Lady Falls sounds more of a tourist destination.

Anyone visited Sgwd Gwladys recently? I am contemplating a skinny dip. Is the water too cold in September? will it be busy during week days?
Water temperature shouldn't be very far from August peaks, and with the schools mostly back it should be quiet enough. We skinny-dipped there before the school holidays a couple of years ago and all was fine. Ended up sharing it with a mixed group of teenagers who didn't care, and a few walkers went by. When you're obviously just enjoying the water people seem even less inclined to be bothered.
If I was anywhere near I'd probably be there for the warm weather coming up in a couple of days. Lovely spot.
